THEME – – ANNEX A
Description of the Theme: ‘Design (for) Emergency’
IED calls young creatives to develop ideas and projects describing ‘Design (for) Emergency’: please apply this concept to the area of studies that you prefer, Fashion, Design, VisualCommunication, Management.
“Emergency” means a serious situation or occurrence that happens unexpectedly and demands immediate action, a condition of urgent need for action or assistance. Our goal is to show how the design can be a useful guide for real emergency situations, how can you exploit design to find solutions for natural disasters/catastrophes, urban and domestic problems, how design can be a significant element for new proposals, in order to improve the world and the life of its inhabitants.
The Candidates have to propose some new ideas linking between design, emergency, innovation, individual experiences and global needs: they will have to propose innovative suggestions in order to prevent or to face emergency situations and to present these solutions to an international audience.
For each IED area a briefing has been defined.
Candidates must develop the theme related to the Master program they wish to apply for; the choice of the element to design or describe depends on the course you choose.
The technical details to present the Concepts are described in the section 4 of the below Regulations.
IED DESIGN
Master of Product Design Labs, Master of European Design Labs, Design for Social Business, Global Design, Interior Design, Product Design, Food Design, Handicraft and Self Production design, Yacht Design, Transportation Design, Advanced Design for Mobility, Sustainable Architecture
Please adapt the project to the program of your choice, considering the below guidelines:
design a space, an exhibition, a shop, an office, a building (Interior Design, Sustainable Architecture); for example, you can design a safe building, a shelter for children or old people, find solutions for an area or a city affected by natural catastrophes like floods, earthquakes, shortage of water.
design an object, a product (Product Design, Product Design Labs, Handicraft & Self-Production Food Design); for example, create an object, develop a product that can prevent accidents at home or in the office, find a solution for food distribution in emergency situations, for mobile communications in extreme weather conditions, for energy supply outside urban environments.
design a car, a bike, a yacht, a train (Transportation Design, Yacht Design, Advanced Design for Mobility); the chosen mean of transport should be suitable for emergency conditions, for example allowing to carry a big number of people, to work in difficult conditions, to offer the possibility to treat injured or ill people.
create a design solution or strategy, an innovative action plan, useful to manage emergency conditions (Design Management, European Design Labs, Design for Social Business).
All the proposed design elements must represent or being connected with your ‘Design (for) Emergency’, your creative solution for a emergency problem.
