Bag in Town is a design competition that aims to encourage young creative minds to rethink the triangular relationship between a bag, its owner, and its environment. To rethink the relationship between aesthetics and function. Between container and contents. Because the bag has become an object that is as versatile, multifaceted and multifunctional as the people who use them and the cities in which they live, work and play.

- Concept as described in the briefing, accompanied by a Title and Description
- The Candidate will submit from 1 to 5 images, pictures, scans or drawings of the Concept. Digital images must be supplied in Jpeg 72dpi format with a minimum width of 600 pixel, optimized for the Web (maximum 2Mb file size).
- The Candidate can submit a link to a video previously uploaded on ied.tv or Youtube.com or Vimeo.com, or an attachment in .doc .pdf .ppt or .keynote format (maximum 2Mb file size).
The jury will be formed by proffesionals from the fields of product design, marketing, teaching and art.
As defined in the Paragraph 7 of the Contest Regulations, the 3 Concepts which will obtain the most votes from the Creative Context Community and to the 3 Concepts chosen by the Panel will win the prize “Creative Factory IED”: a stage that will take place from 25 to 27 of September for in MADRID in the IED School and from 29 to 31 of October in VENICE in the IED School new location. For any other detail please directly refer to the Contest Regulations.
“A Bag for 24 hours”
1.1 Through the network www.creativecontexts.com Istituto Europeo di Design S.p.A. (the “IED”) wishes to promote the meeting of young creative artists with companies by the activation and promotion of specific contests of design, fashion and visual communication, with the intent to incite, through “common creation”, the conception, development and possibly the realization of a product.
1.2 In range of such initiative IED, cooperating with VF Europe, BVBA, Eastpak Division (the “Eastpak”), promotes the contest “Bag in Town” through the dedicated website www.bagintown.net (the “Website”).
1.3 The contest “Bag in Town” (the “Contest”) is controlled by the present regulations and will take place, though all the phases detailed below, from the 17th of April 2012, date of publication of the Regulations, until December 2012.
2.1 Participation to the Contest is subject to acceptance of the present Regulations and is strictly reserved to at least 18 years old users who register to the network creativecontexts.com.
2.2 Eastpak employees and consultants are not allowed to participate to the Contest.
2.3 Providing the personal data required by the registration form, the User will have to create an identification code (Username) ad a password (Password). The User, knowing the legal consequences of supplying false data, will supply precise, complete, true and correct data.
2.4 Processing of personal data will be respectful of the attached information as per D.Lgs 196/03 on personal data protection. None of the data required for registration can be considered sensible under the above mentioned decree.
2.5 the User is informed that knowledge of his Username and Password by third parties will grant them access to the User’s personal area of the site in his name. The User is thus bound to keep the secrecy of his access data with the maximum diligence.
2.6 The User will be held liable or accountable for any damage and damaging consequence occurred to IED for the infringement of the rule stated above.
3.1 Any registered User can participate to the Contest, filling the provided form in every part and, having agreed to these regulations, sending to the Website within 1st of July 2012 his creative works (“Concepts”) featuring images and videos annotated by a text in English, respecting features and formats detailed in par. 4 and the subject of the Contest given in the Brief published on the Website.
3.2 With his participation to the Contest, and in any case with the submitting of the Concepts, the User fully agrees with these Regulations.
3.3 The User grants the Concepts submitted to the Website are the result of his personal work and, knowing the legal consequences of false declarations, also grants that the Concepts:
a) are the fruit of his personal and original intellectual work, and do not constitute counterfeiting and/or plagiarism;
b) do not infringe law, order and public decency;
c) do not violate any intellectual property right, both registered or not, of third parties such as, but not limited to, copyrights, brands and patents;
d) do not violate any right of third parties accorded by law, contracts, customs and traditions;
e) were made with all necessary authorizations and/or releasing from all individuals involved in their realization.
3.4 The User grants his full personal liability for the content, lawfulness, nature, quality and truthfulness of the Concepts and Comments published on the Website, expressly releasing IED, Eastpak and their assignees from any duty of verification and control on them.
3.5 Any liability of IED, Eastpak and their assignees for any Concept published on the Website is expressly excluded. The User will hold IED, Eastpak and their assignees harmless from any request for reparation or compensation coming by third parties as a consequence of the publication of his Concepts.
3.6 The User grants to hold IED, Eastpak and their assignees harmless, materially and in court, from any loss, damage, liability, cost or expense, including legal costs, deriving from any breach of this paragraph 3.
4.1 In order to participate to the Contest the User will have to fill and submit a form of delivery of the Concept, giving a title to the Concept itself and explaining its leading idea in ten lines of text in English.
4.2 The User will submit from 1 to 5 images, pictures, scans or drawings of the Concept. Digital images must be supplied in Jpeg 72dpi format with a minimum width of 1000 pixel, optimized for the Web.
4.3 The User can submit a link to a video previously uploaded on ied.tv or Youtube.com or Vimeo.com, or an attachment in .doc .pdf .ppt or .keynote format.
4.4 Requirements detailed in par. 4.1 and 4.2 are compulsory for the participation to the Contest, while what described in par. 4.3 is optional.
5.1 Save for what determined in the following par. 6, 7 and 8 for the winners of the Contest, the User, with his participation to the Contest and the consequent publication of his Concepts in the Website, giving up any indemnity and/or refund and independently from the awarding of a prize, grants for free and permanently to IED and Eastpak the right to use submitted Concepts for the sole purpose of promoting the Website and IED’s activities, with mention of the Concept’s author.
6.1 Requests for participation filled partially and/or containing false or incorrect personal data will not be allowed to compete in the Contest and will not participate to the assignment of prizes. Such consequences will also apply to Concepts:
a) incomplete or submitted in formats different from those listed in par. 4;
b) not pertaining to the subject of the Contest published on the Website;
c) without the requisites listed in par. 3.3;
d) submitted beyond the term of par. 3.1.
6.2 From the beginning of the Contest and until the 20 th of July 2012 Concepts published on the Website will be open for voting by the Creative Context Community. Vote is strictly reserved to facebook registered Users, who will be able to vote only one for every Concept.
6.3. All Concepts will be open for comments by all Users of the Website, even if not registered. Comments will have no part in the selection of the winners.
6.4 On the 27th of July 2012 a Panel (the “Panel”) of 3 IED representatives and 3 Eastpak representatives (whose names will be noticed on the Website within the 15th of May 2012) will notice on the Website the names of the 6 winners of the first phase of the Contest, among who 3 will be the most voted by the Creative Context Community and 3 will be chosen by unchallengeable decision of the panel, based on the following criteria: a) compliace of the Concept to the Contest’s theme; b) clear explanation of contents and objectives of the idea presented; c) quality of the material submitted; d) consumer user friendliness. In case of impediment of one or more Panel members, IED and/or Eastpak will be free to substitute them, promptly communicating their choice.
6.5 Eastpak and IED put up as a prize for the 6 winners of the first phase a design experience (the “Stage”) in IED’s Creative Factory of Milan and Madrid, according to the following par. 7, which will take place from September.
6.6 The secretariat of the Contest will give promptly notice to the winners by email. In any case, within 5 days from the public notice on the Website (as per par. 6.4) each of the 6 winners will have to notice his acceptance of the prize by an email to the address contextmanager@BagInTown.net. If no acceptance is notified within the time limit above, the prize will be considered rejected and will be reassigned to another User by unchallengeable decision of the panel, on the basis of the criteria listed in par. 6.4;
6.7 The Panel will proclaim the Contest winners by means of publication on the Website on the 31st of August 2012. If one or more winners should give up the prize, the Panel will be free to assign it to another User on the basis of the criteria listed in par. 6.4.
7.1 The prize “Creative Factory IED” will be assigned to the 3 Concepts which will obtain the most votes from the Creative Context Community and to the 3 Concepts chosen by the Panel.
7.2 The prize, consisting of the Stage that will take place in IED’s Creative Factory of Milan and Madrid, includes the travel cost (meaning air/train ticket from the winner’s place of residence to the place where the Stage is based), room and board (meaning overnight stay in structures having an agreement with IED, and main meals – lunch and dinner – arranged by IED) for the whole duration of the stage (6 days). Any other cost necessary to obtain visas or any other document needed to reach the place where the Stage is based will be at the winner’s sole expense.
7.3 During the stage the winners of the Contest, supported by product and marketing managers from Eastpak and experts of design management from IED, will develop their Concepts to the realization of the respective Project.
7.4 The stage, beginning in September 2012, will include a first session of 3 days (6 hours per day) on the 25th, 26th and 27th of September 2012, at IED’s Creative Factory in Madrid, during which every Concept will analyzed in a shared and collective way in order to come to a detailed project briefing
7.5 Concluded the first session at IED’s Creative Factory, for the following 4 weeks, from the 1st to the 26th of October 2012, each winner will develop his respective project briefing with the remote (web/email) support of the experts from IED’s Creative Factory.
7.6 At the end of the 4 weeks, the winners will travel to IED’s Creative Factory in Milan for a second session of 3 days, on the 29th, 30th and 31st of October 2012, during wich, with the support of experts from Eastpak and IED, every Concept will be turned into a Project.
8.1 Every Project realized at IED’s Creative Factory will be published on the Website from the 19th to the 30th of November 2012, and will be voted by the Creative Context Community for this whole span of time.
8.2 Voting will be reserved to facebook registered Users only, who will be allowed to vote only once for every Project.
8.3 All Concepts will be open for comments by all Users of the Website, even if not registered. Comments will have no part in the selection of the final Grand Prize winner.
8.4 At the end of the vote the Panel will proclaim, on the 11th of December 2012, the final winner of the Contest, assigning to the Project most voted by the Creative Context Community the Grand Prize of € 5.000 (€ 3.000 paid by Eastpak and € 2.000 paid by IED).
8.5 Dates and places of the Stage as detailed in par. 7.2, 7.4, 7.5 and 7.6, as well as dates and time limits as per par. 8.1 and 8.4 may be subject to changes that will be noticed within the 27th of July 2012 by means of publication on the Website.
9.1 The awarding of prizes to the winners represents the acknowledgement of their personal merit and has nature of compensation for the cession of the rights detailed in the following par. 9.2. Participation to the Contest and the possible awarding of a prize will not, under any circumstance, grant a job, not as an employee nor as a consultant, with IED or Eastpak.
9.2 With the assignment of the prizes the Contest winners cede to Eastpak any and every right of property, utilization, and economical exploitation of the Project or parts of the Projects, with the power to develop and/or modify them, with reserve of the moral rights of authors and inventors accorded by law. With the exception of all that is stated in the following par. 9.4, the cession of such rights will have a duration of 2 years since the assignment of the prize.
9.3 It is understood that the winners of the Contest, as accepting the prize (the Stage) and as a condition for its awarding, will have to sign a declaration / waiver / cession of rights certifying: a) to be the person owning the email address submitted to IED for participating to the Contest; b) to authorize IED and Eastpak to use their name, image and other personal data for promotion of the Contest, publication on the Website and on other materials promoting the Contest, and for promotional purposes of the Contest in general; c) to cede the rights detailed in par. 9.2 on the Concepts submitted for participating to the Contest, that the prize represents a just compensation for such cession, and that therefore they have nothing more to claim from IED and Eastpak for the same cession of rights.
9.4 Eastpak will have the option, not the obligation, to realize a product deriving from one of the 6 winning Projects. Such product will be marketed mainly, but not exclusively, on the E-Commerce website of Eastpak (with hosting on the portal “CreativeContexts”), and will bear the brand “IED for Eastpak”. In such a case Eastpak will pay a total, all embracing amount of € 3.000 to the author of the selected project (to be considered additional to the Grand Prize of € 5.000) as a compensation for the total cession of all and any right of economic exploitation, with no limit of time. In addition, Eastpak, only in case it decides, at its sole discretion, to market one of the winning Concepts, will grant IED a royalty of the 5% on the price of any product sold, as a compensation for the use of IED’s brand. The sums possibily collected by IED will be used to institute scholarships through contests by CreativeContexts.com.
10.1 Save for Users’ Concepts and Comments, IED owns and can use every other content of the Website, including, but with no limitation to, text, software, fonts, graphics, pictures, sounds, music, videos, interactive elements (IED Content). Such Content is protected by copyright, brand rights and other intellectual property rights owned by IED and its licencees.
10.2 IED Content cannot be downloaded, copied, reproduced, distributed, transmitted, spread, visualized, sold, licenced or exploited in any other way without prior written consent by IED or its licencees.
10.3 The User accepts and agrees that the Concepts and Comments on the Website are under the exclusive responsibility of the individuals they come from.
10.4 IED is not bound to control and supervise the Concepts and Comments submitted and published on the Website, and accordingly IED does not grant their truthfulness, correctness or quality. Under no circumstance IED will be held liable or accountable for Concept or Comments that for any reason are found illicit, illegal or offensive.
10.5 IED reserves the right not to publish and to remove from the Website any Concept or Comment in manifest breach of these Regulations, inopportune or reprehensible. IED reserves the right to modify the Concepts submitted by Users by all means necessary to allow their pubblication on the Website.
10.6 The Website may include links to other websites or resources not owned or controlled by IED. Users accept and agree that under no circumstance IED will be held liable or accountable for the contents, advertisings, services or products present in such external links.
11.1 IED does not states nor grants that the Website and its functions are flawless or satisfy certain standards, needs or requests of the User.
11.2 IED does not states nor grants that use of the Website and its functions will be prompt, uninterrupted, assured or flawless, nor that the information and contents on the Website are correct, truthful and/or reliable.
11.3 Under no circumstance IED will be held liable or accountable towards Users or third parties for any damage consequent, accidental, indirect or of any other nature, (including, as an example, damages for profit loss, trade relation loss, data loss and similar) predictable or unpredictable, deriving from the use or the impossibility to use the Website.
11.4 IED will not be liable for imprecisions, inaccuracies or delays due to force majeure.
11.5 IED is not liable for improper use of the Website and does not grant nor authorize its use in any application potentially dangerous for people or properties, as during normal functioning, as during failure or anomaly situations.
11.6 The User, therefore, grants that he will hold IED harmless from any consequence deriving for improper, illicit or undue use of the Website.
11.7 Consequently, the User declares himself solely liable towards IED and third parties for any and every behavior or fact punishable by law during the utilization of the Website.
11.8 All of the exclusions of warranties detailed in this paragraph pertain to Eastpak too.
12.1 the User binds himself:
a) not to damage or violate, directly or indirectly, the Website;
b) not to divulge or cede, directly or indirectly , usernames, passwords, access codes and login data to the Website;
c) not to reproduce, copy, distribute in part or in whole, by commercial or non-commercial ends, the Website, the Concepts and IED Contents published on the Website, by no means, not electronic nor printable;
d) not to perform any action that can compromise the security of the Website;
12.2 It is expressly forbidden to the User:
a) to submit, upload and/or publish material protected by copyright, unless the User is the owner of such right or has been authorized by the owner;
b) to submit, upload and/or publish material that disclose industrial secrets unless the User is the owner of such secrets or has been authorized by the owner;
c) to submit, upload and/or publish material that violates intellectual property rights, privacy rights or rights deriving from advertising contracts;
d) to submit, upload and/or publish material that is illicit or against law, order and public decency;
e) to submit, upload and/or publish material containing improper expressions or violating someone else’s dignity or decency;
f) to submit, upload and/or publish images, videos, audios or texts that are sexually explicit, pornographic, or containing ethnic or religious discrimination;
g) to submit, upload and/or publish promotional material, junk mail, spam or any other unrequested or unauthorized form of solicitation;
h) to falsify his identity;
i) to submit, upload and/or publish material containing computer viruses and/or other codes or files or programs created to interrupt, destroy, damage or limit the operation of softwares, hardwares, websites or telecommunication installations belonging to IED, Eastpak or third parties;
12.3 Any verified breach of this paragraph 12 will cause the removal of the User from the Website, reserved the right of IED and/or third parties to compensation for damages.
13.1 Registation to the Website has unlimited duration, save for withdrawal or other causes of cancellation, starting from the date of registration.
13.2 The User has the right to cancel at any time his registration to the Website, notifing IED with an email to the address email@example.com and specifying the username and password assigned on his registration to the Website. No request of cancellation without the required data will be accepted.
13.3 IED will disable the User’s username and password, removing from the Website all the Concepts and Comments submitted by the User.
13.4 In case of verified breach of par 2.2, 3.3 e 10, IED will be free to cancel the registration to the Website of the User at any time, without notice and with no penalty, removing all comments and concepts submitted by the same User.
14.1 This Agreement, these Regulation, the use of the Site and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or their subject matter or formation (including non-contractual disputes or claims) shall be governed by and construed in accordance with Italian law.
14.2 The court of Milan (Italy) shall have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute or claim that arises out of or in connection with this Agreement, the Regulations, the use of the Site, or their subject matter or formation (including non-contractual disputes or claims).
Information as per sec. 13 of the Code on protection of personal data (D. Lgs. 196/03)
(*) The User is bound to read entirely the text, using the vertical scroll bar, and to click in the apposite space for acceptance and consent to data processing.
In accordance with sec. 13 of the Code on protection of personal data (D. Lgs. 196/03) we inform you about the processing of your personal data performed by IED and Eastpak regarding to your participation to the Contest “Bag in Town” and to the use of the websites www.bagintown.net and www.creativecontexts.com (the “Websites”). According to the mentioned decree, the processing of your data will be respectful of the principles of correctness, lawfulness, transparency and protection of your privacy and your rights.
1) Your personal data, including your image, will be handled only to consent your participation to the Contest “Bag in Town”, for the potential assignment of prizes and the supplying of services usable through the Websites, and for all connected activities.
In addition to the uses mentioned above, your personal data may be handled to fulfill obligations set by domestic and European law.
Supplying your data is compulsory for the purposes mentioned above. The lack of their transmission, even partial, or the communication of incorrect data, may have as a consequence the impossibility to supply you the requested service;
2) Given you explicit consent and until its withdrawal your personal data, including your image, will be transmitted to companies, agencies, syndicates, associations and/or third parties in general in order to assignment of the prizes or in order to favor your potential collaboration or stages with such parties. The consent to the data processing described in this paragraph is necessary to participate to the Contest “Bag in Town”.
3) Given you explicit consent and until its withdrawal your personal data will be also handled for the following purposes, connected to the ones listed above: a) to elaborate studies and marketing researches; b) to send even by means of SMS, telefax, mail and/or email advertising and informative material regarding IED, Eastpak and their assignees; c) to send interactive commercial communications; d) to gather data on the level of users’ satisfaction about supplied services (even through third parties).
You will be able to withdraw the consent given for the purposes above at any time, sending a request by email to: firstname.lastname@example.org specifying the Username and Password given at the registration to the Websites. No request of cancellation without the required data will be accepted.
Data Processing detailed in par. 1), 2) and 3) will be manual (i.e. on paper support) and/or automatic (i.e. using computer devices) according to the procedures set by law.
Within IED and Eastpak your data will be handled only by IED and Eastpak’s employees, appointed as subjects in charge of data processing, who have received adequate operative instructions.
In addition to IED and Eastpak’s employees, some of the processing of your data may be performed by third parties, to whom IED and Eastpak entrust some activities (or parts of them) functional to the supplying of the above mentioned services. In such cases those parties will be appointed as subjects in charge of data processing, and will receive adequate operative instructions, especially regarding the necessary security measures to ensure privacy and data security.

Sec. 7 D. Lgs. 196/03 “Right to access to personal data and other rights”
1. A data subject shall have the right to obtain confirmation as to whether or not personal data concerning him exist, regardless of their being already recorded, and communication of such data in intelligible form.
2. A data subject shall have the right to be informed
a) of the source of the personal data;
b) of the purposes and methods of the processing;
c) of the logic applied to the processing, if the latter is carried out with the help of electronic means;
d) of the identification data concerning data controller, data processors and the representative designated as per Section 5(2);
e) of the entities or categories of entity to whom or which the personal data may be communicated and who or which may get to know said data in their capacity as designated representative(s) in the State’s territory, data processor(s) or person(s) in charge of the processing.
3. A data subject shall have the right to obtain
a) updating, rectification or, where interested therein, integration of the data;
b) erasure, anonymization or blocking of data that have been processed unlawfully, including data whose retention is unnecessary for the purposes for which they have been collected or subsequently processed;
c) certification to the effect that the operations as per letters a) and b) have been notified, as also related to their contents, to the entities to whom or which the data were communicated or disseminated, unless this requirement proves impossible or involves a manifestly disproportionate effort compared with the right that is to be protected.
4. A data subject shall have the right to object, in whole or in part,
a) on legitimate grounds, to the processing of personal data concerning him/her, even though they are relevant to the purpose of the collection;
b) to the processing of personal data concerning him/her, where it is carried out for the purpose of sending advertising materials or direct selling or else for the performance of market or commercial communication surveys.
